Picnic on the Green 2019

We met on Sunday 14 July 2019 for the annual Picnic on the Green. The event took place on Oxhey Village Green.

With weather predictions varying throughout the week, and a spot of drizzle early in the morning, there were fears that picnic­-goers may be heading home with soggy blankets.

Adding to this, the UK was enjoying a ‘super Sunday’ of sporting highlights, with the England cricket team storming to world cup glory, Lewis Hamilton first across the line at the British Grand Prix and a Wimbledon men’s final of epic proportions.

Undeterred as ever, the good people of Oxhey Village ventured out for a fine afternoon of family, friends and refreshments on the village green. Musical accompaniment was provided this year by the UkeRythmics, who entertained throughout the afternoon with a full repertoire of classic hits played via the medium of – you guessed it – ukuleles.

Luckily, the weather held out and everyone on the green had the perfect opportunity to chat, relax, and tuck into some sandwiches, while maybe even enjoying the odd drink or two.

Thanks went to OVEG volunteers who helped set up on the day. As a mark of gratitude to the UkeRythmics for providing such a fantastic audio backdrop, we donated £100 to the band’s chosen charity, DENS, an organisation that houses, supports and empowers vulnerable homeless people to transform their lives.
