Oxhey Village Summer Fayre 2016

The Oxhey Village Summer Fayre took place on Saturday 11 June 2016.

The 41st Summer Fayre was organised by Paul Hudson, our new Fayre Co-ordinator, supported by a fabulous sub-committee including Kim Baxter, Stephanie Thiers-Ratcliffe, Richard King and Matt Acornley.

Volunteers on the day included Ben Atkins, Rae Hobden, Christine Roberts, Anna Johnston, Helen Colley, Debbie Dibble, Roger and Judith Rackley, Kathy Coughlan, Mel Moody, Ayan Lowe, and Will and Nancy Kelly. As usual, the incomparable Frances Jaggard ran the OVEG membership tent.

After the Glen Trew Pipe Band had paraded the Green with their colourful display and distinctive drum beats, local councillor and deputy mayor Peter Taylor opened the Fayre and announced the start of the Fun Run, which was organised by the Rolph family.

The main arena saw entertainment from Bushey and Oxhey Infant School’s Year 2 Country Dancers. This was followed by the Bushey and Oxhey Community Choir and The Academy.

The judging for the royal-themed fancy dress competition took place, and although there were not many entries, there were three age categories with some marvellous prizes. The family ticket to Buckingham Palace was won by a ‘princess’ who had made her own crown, a book on the Queen’s birthday was won by three-year old ‘prince’ Wilfred Hudson, and there was a luxury Buckingham Palace biscuit tin.

Staff from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, based at Watford’s fire station, arrived in their red fire engine.
The bouncy castles were extremely popular, as always. Thankfully, the light rain at the start of the day did not continue and the sun kept the inflatable equipment dry enough for safe use.
The day closed with the announcement of the raffle, and a long list of winners.

The OVEG team had a new ‘team member’ this year; a small four-wheeled kart affectionately dubbed ‘Dolly the Trolley.’ This proved to be a much easier way of setting up and taking down the fayre, removing some of the back strain for our volunteers!
