Environment Subgroup

OVEG’s environment subgroup is a small, informal grouping of the OVEG committee. Their aim is to encourage, and work with, residents to increase biodiversity and support our dwindling wildlife by making small changes.

Aims of the subgroup

The UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries on earth. We can do something about this locally by working together. This means it is easy to feel powerless when thinking about climate change and biodiversity loss. Our focus is on what we can do locally, as a community to leave our area in the best possible state for future generations.

The subgroup aims to:

  • Raise awareness of quick and easy things anyone can do – or stop doing – to help nature
  • Encourage the community to get involved in the group’s initiatives
  • Work alongside other local groups who are already involved in sustainability
  • Work with local schools to inspire young people to appreciate, and support, nature
  • Work with Watford Council and local councillors to support local rewilding or nature-supporting initiatives

Get involved

The environment subgroup has lots of ideas and projects they would leave to pursue, to help nature in Oxhey Village. Examples include expanding the Wilderhood Watch, creating pollinator pathways, bat corridors, toad roads and hedgehog highways.

We would love you to join the team. You don’t need to be an OVEG member… although it would be appreciated. You just need to be keen to help, and interested in supporting biodiversity and improving our local environment.

If you’re interested in contributing, contact our OVEG’s Environment Officer, Shirena Counter.
