Dangers to Wildlife at Halloween

Putting up fake spider webs is a relatively new practice in the UK but there is more and more evidence from countries that have been them for a while that they are dangerous for small animals, particularly bats and birds which can become trapped in them, causing injury and usually death.   Ideally, you should avoid buying them as they are plastic and this doesn’t degrade, so that any that is left over remains in the environment.  If you do decide to use it, please, avoid decorating hedges or trees but drape over windows or doors instead.  Even better (and cheaper), get your children to make paper spiderwebs (there’s lots of advice on the internet).
