Hertfordshire Constabulary Safer Neighbourhood Teams would like to make residents aware of the need to keep their property secure. Following a recent spate of burglaries in the area, the police are increasing patrols.
We do not wish to unduly worry you as burglary is rare, however it is advisable to take precautions to reduce your risk of being victimised. A few are as follows:
- · Securing windows & doors
- · Lock away all garden tools when not in use
- · Place bins away from property
- · Set lights on timer if out in the evenings
- · Ensure alarm systems are working
- · Keep vehicle keys away from the doors of property
- · Install external lighting, for example dusk-to-dawn lighting in the garden and sensor lighting at the front
- · Consider a doorbell camera and/or burglar alarm to deter burglars
- · Use a timer switch in your home to control internal lights, radios and a TV simulator, which gives a home a lived-in look even when you are away
- · Make sure boundary fences with gates are secure and locked
