Oxhey Swapsey was piloted over several weekends in 2024. It grew from an idea at the OVEG Climate Café in the spring of 2024, as a way of recycling household items and saving them from landfill.
From 09:00 until 12:00, on the first Saturday of each month, residents were encouraged to re-home their usable – but unwanted – items that were too good for the tip. As an added bonus, they could find useful items to add joy to their own home, for free.
The sessions were themed and took place on the following dates:
- 6 July 2024 – camping, gardening, sports equipment
- 3 August 2024 – school uniform, school stationery, electricals
- 7 September 2024 – music, books, DVDs, CDs
- 5 October 2024 – fancy dress, craft supplies
- 2 November 2024 – toys, kids’ stuff
- 7 December 2024 – Christmas items, items suitable for gifts
- 4 January 2024 – Unwanted gift items, general ‘new year clear out’
