Our first Oxhey Village Bake Off took place on Sunday 18 May 2014 at the Rifle Volunteer pub.
Outside, it was an incredibly sunny day. While inside, the pub was beautifully decorated, thanks to Sue Kelly’s flowers and bunting.
The turnout was much busier than expected. We were inundated with the most fabulous, unique and delicious looking cakes in all sorts of shapes and sizes. It seemed to have captured the imagination of everyone, both young and old. At one point, a queue was snaking out of the pub and down Villiers Road. The standard of baking and creativity was incredible. Not only did they taste good, they all looked amazing.
Our trio of judges, Mary Murdoch, Rob Marsh and Mandy Evans did a fantastic job, carefully judging each entry whilst the crowd of onlookers waited in anticipation.
The winners were:
Juniors
1st: Poppy Sheward
2nd: Anisha
3rd: Isabella Ghai
Teens
1st: Isabella Bolino-Fraias, Mia Lewis, and Anabella Heffes
2nd: Louise Elsun
3rd: Lily Scourfield
Adults
1st: Jemima Barnett
2nd: Jane Hopkins
3rd: Kathryn Shorto
We were grateful to Chris Pyrke for allowing us of The Rifle Volunteer and making everyone so welcome.
