The Oxhey Village Summer Fayre took place on Saturday 10 June 2017.
The sun shone throughout, albeit some strong winds made gazebo erection a little demanding. The good weather drew plenty of people to Oxhey Village Green and guests were well catered for, with a great variety of stalls, and food and drink outlets.
As has become traditional, the Glen Trew Pipe band opened the event with a rousing performance, followed by the official opening from local councillor Peter Taylor.
In the arena, second year pupils from Bushey and Oxhey Infants School provided an energetic performance of country dancing.
This year, for the first time, we had a performance by Capoeira Senzala Bushey demonstrating their spinning, and high kicking, Brazilian martial arts. They also hosted a stall at which children and adults were taught some moves and kicks to the sounds of traditional instruments.
We were supported by our local police community support officers who demonstrated the lights and sirens on their police van. Watford’s fire service delighted children with the chance to sit in the fire engine.
After a few years away, the ever-popular Oxhey Village Dog Show show made a welcome return to the fayre.
We had yet another first, as we were treated to the Pump House children and youth theatre singing a couple of numbers from their production of The Wiz; a soul musical based on The Wizard of Oz.
After the Pump House came more enthusiastic singing, this time from the Bushey and Oxhey Community Singers.
All that was left was for the novelty running races sponsored by Friends Estate Agents and the drawing of the raffle prizes.
As always, we were grateful to the committee and Oxhey Village residents who volunteered their time to make sure that this year’s fayre was another great success.
We had a rare chance to see views of the Summer Fayre from up high, thanks to drone footage.
