The Oxhey Village Summer Fayre took place on Saturday 8 June 2019.
On the morning of the fayre, the view out of the window wasn’t promising. However, despite the damp conditions, our team of volunteers still turned up to make light work of setting up the arena and gazebos.
As the stall holders arrived on site it became clear the rain wouldn’t be a big issue, but rather strong gusts from the south-west. The wind caused issues for stalls not protected by the houses and many had to be relocated; nonetheless, everyone mucked in and showed great humour in some testing conditions.
The main arena was a hive of entertainment and as master of ceremonies Jon Moonie kept everyone informed and entertained with music through the day.
The rain and wind of earlier dispersed as the Glen Trew Pipe Band began playing traditional Scottish music. This was followed by the official opening by Watford Mayor Peter Taylor. Then, parents and family members watched on as the children of Bushey and Oxhey Infants took centre stage with their maypole and English country dancing.
More performances followed, with the children from the Pump House Youth group giving the crowd an enthusiastic taster of their up-coming productions of Annie, and The Little Mermaid. By this point, the weather had truly turned and the sun came out in time for the Oxhey Village Dog Show.
The activities in the arena closed with parachute games from the St James Music and Drama Society, and the boys from Tabard Rugby Club in Radlett demonstrated their skills and passion for the sport.
We were grateful to our sponsors Friends Estate Agents, The Rifle Volunteer, Metro Bank, and Bushey Dog Grooming Studio.
