We monitor significant development planning in Oxhey Village on behalf of our members. In conjunction with the residents affected by the developments, we fight inappropriate ones.
We rarely intervene in minor developments such as small extensions and conservatories.
Development control in Watford is by a simple process where the applicant applies to the council for permission. This application is then scrutinised, initially by Development Control, a group of employed Council Officers. They then either reject it or as in most cases make recommendations to the Development Control Committee.
There are a comprehensive set of planning guidelines set out in the Watford District Plan. These encompass a large number of factors including suitability of development to the area, access to the site, proximity to existing houses and effect on local conditions. This very large plan is available at the town hall and also can be found on the Watford Borough Council website.
Plans of proposed developments may be viewed as hard copy at the town hall or on the Watford Borough Council website.
Oxhey Conservation Area
Some parts of Oxhey Village lie with the ‘Oxhey Conservation Area’.
Conservations areas are designated to protect special the architectural of historic interest of a place, or the features that make it unique and distinctive.
The Oxhey Conservation Area is managed by Watford Borough Council. We advise residents to contact the council if they have questions regarding the conservation area and how it may relate to their property.
