County council cuts

Herts County Council is planning further cuts to bus services and household waste sites.

When Watford’s Wiggenhall Waste recycling site was closed three years ago the county council said alternative provision at Elstree and Waterdale meant Watford remained well served. Now they are proposing to close Elstree altogether and cut opening hours at Waterdale by 44% and closing it (and the Rickmansworth site) for two days a week.

At the same time, they are proposing major cuts to bus services, slashing nearly one million journeys per year across Hertfordshire. They want to cut evening and Sunday services on routes that the county council funds. This includes many services affecting Watford and Three Rivers, such as the 501, 8, 10, 352, 321, W19 and the 602. In total 39 routes are under threat.
