Oxhey Village Summer Fayre 2025

Unfortunately, the unpredictable British weather meant that the Oxhey Village Summer Fayre 2025 had to be cancelled with one day to go.

It’s the announcement we never want to make. And we knew that residents would be just as disappointed as we were. Come rain or shine, we always try to press ahead. However, on the previous day, the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning of thunder storms, meaning it wouldn’t have been safe or responsible to bring people together on the green.

It’s also disappointing for the stallholders who were looking forward to attending. Instead, we encouraged people to support our local pubs, cafes and shops on Saturday; many of whom would normally do great business on fayre day.

When it became clear that the Summer Fayre couldn’t go ahead, our hard-working volunteers set about finding ways to turn a disheartening situation into something more positive.

The racetrack had already been painted on the village green, and medals were awaiting the family races. Rather than see it all go to waste, so we challenged residents to take a photo of their kids (or maybe the big kids?) enjoying the racetrack. We then posted medals through the doors of everyone who shared photos of their family fun.

As a novel way of drawing the raffle, which usually takes place at the fayre, we headed to The Railway Arms, where landlady Elaine performed the honours. This was a great opportunity to say thank you to Elaine who does a spectacular job of running the fayre’s Pimm’s tent each year.
