Remembrance Day Service 2025

On Sunday 9 November 2025, we met for Oxhey Village’s Remembrance Day service and memorial walk.

In keeping with tradition, we met at the Oxhey Village Green war memorial at 14:15, where our deputy chair Rob Kirby laid a wreath on behalf of the community. We then led a community walk towards the Watford Heath memorial for a service at 15:00.

The 2025 Remembrance Day events were the first to commence at the newly restored Oxhey Village Green war memorial, following a refurbishment project commissioned by OVEG.

Rev Joy Mayisiri – from Bushey & Oxhey Methodist church – conducted the services and local resident Jill Ibbott laid a wreath in memory of her family, several of whom are named on the Oxhey Village Green War Memorial.

The community walk, led by Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, Patrick Moriarty, saw the 4th Bushey Guides and the 29th Beavers, Cubs and Scouts fly their colours. More than 200 members of the community joined this important annal event, walking through the roads of Oxhey Village, supported by local police officers.

At the Watford Heath memorial, Andy Probert and Jack Maxell played the last post and John Ratcliffe conducted readings on behalf of the Armed Services.

A wreath was laid on behalf of the community by Roy and Ali Bean, who have lived in the village for 34 years. During that time, they have held PTA and governor roles at Oxhey Infants School and Bushey Manor, and provided families with child care services for more than 18 years.

Karen Cooper and Sarah Wall laid wreaths from the Oxhey Women’s Institute, as did representatives of the Hertfordshire Police Force and ward councillors.

Andrew Filer also referenced Rob Marsh, Mark Struggnell and Kevin Brind; a group of friends from Oxhey Village who had earlier the day laid a wreath, on behalf of the community, at the Menin Gate in Ypres, Belgium. On the preceding Friday, they had set off aboard motorcycles and train to visited Dunkirk and Ypres, before returning to the village in time to join the local services.

Following the services, refreshments were provided by Oxhey Bowls Club and the Royal Oak on Watford Heath.

We’re grateful to everyone who helped organise another poignant Remembrance Sunday in Oxhey Village, particularly the main coordinators; Andrew Filer and our chair Ben Atkins.

We were also delighted to welcome so many members of the community, who turned out in large numbers to remember those who lost their lives in conflict.
