The OVEG Summer Fayre took place on Saturday 16 June 2012. It was held on Oxhey Village Green and coordinated by OVEG Fayre Organiser Caron Brennan.
It attracted a large number of people and, despite the wind, everyone had a good time. Ahead of the event, the Watford Observer reported the local legend that ‘it has never rained on the day of the fair.’ We’re not entirely sure how accurate that is!
Stalls included old favourites, along with some innovative new additions. We had wonderful entertainers: the Glen Tree Band and Dancers, Bushey and Oxhey Infants Year 2 dancers, Bushey and Oxhey Community Choir and, for the first time, Nickii Clark and her Zumba dancers.
The Pimms tent proved a success despite the weather and the tug of war was as popular as ever. Watford Filmhouse’s archive film was a great addition,
Thank you to all who donated items for the raffle and tombola, to Mrs Rolph for organising the children’s races and all the volunteers that made the fayre possible. We could not run the fayre without all this generous and wonderful support
The fayre was extra special as it was not held only near the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, but also on OVEG committee member Alan Luto’s 80th birthday. To mark this momentous occasion, and his long service for OVEG, Alan was presented with a lifetime OVEG membership award, cuff links and an iced birthday cake baked by Lovedays.
We were grateful to all the event’s generous sponsors. Friends Estate Agents supplied medals for the sporting contests, promotional ‘sale’ boards, and a £200 cash prize for the raffle. Harp Windows donated £250 and sponsored the event programme. Imega Print for sponsored the posters.
