The Oxhey Village Summer Fayre took place on Saturday 8 June 2024 on Oxhey Village Green. This Summer Fayre marked OVEG’s 50th Anniversary.
The day began, unhelpfully, with drizzle. However, this soon cleared and we had a cloudy day with sunny intervals.
The Glen Trew Pipe Band kicked off the proceedings and Watford Mayor, Peter Taylor, formally opened the Fayre.
Children from The Pump House’s youth theatre performed excerpts from their latest performance of ‘Shrek the Musical’ followed by the Year 2 children from Bushey and Oxhey Infant School, who performed traditional country dancing. Both performances attracted large crowds around the central arena.
The cooler weather allowed us to go ahead with the Oxhey Village Dog Show; an event we had to cancel in 2023 due to excessive heat. The number of pets competing meant this was the largest dog show to-date.
There was a variety of stalls at fayre. A highlight was a group of fundraisers from Uxbridge being pelted with custard pies to raise money for the Wish Centre in Harrow.
As usual, there were bouncy castles for the children a visit from Watford’s fire service.
OVEG’s Environment Subgroup ran a stall offering tips to positively impact our local environment and biodiversity.
Bushey Baptist Church did roaring trade in the tea tent and Tonino’s ice cream van had queues trailing around the green. While it wasn’t especially Pimm’s weather, there were plenty of cups sold.
The traditional children’s races saw participants receive an OVEG medal.
Anecdotally, we noted that this was one of the busiest summer fayres in recent years.
