£1,000 raised at Oxhey Lane community walk

A fundraising community walk around the fields on Oxhey Lane has raised more than £1,000.

Local campaigners gathered on Sunday 23 August 2026 to fund the fight against development on this piece of green belt land. Organised by The Villiers Arms and Save Our Green Belt, the walk also raised awareness of the proposed estate of 256 houses.

The group – donning green ribbons and clothing – began their journey at the the Villiers Arms, before heading into the fields, and then returning to the pub for much-needed refreshments.

The fundraising is not over, however. With more than £30,000 still required to cover the campaign’s legal bills, Oxhey Sounds is hosting a pair of fundraising concerts this bank holiday weekend, featuring the legendary jazz saxophonist Tim Whitehead and his outstanding quartet. The 17.30 performance will be supported by local singer/songwriter duo, Archer Levy and Georgia Lowe, aka Sundown.
