There will be no trains between Watford Junction and Euston this weekend as engineers remove the Oxhey Grange footbridge.
Network Rail have announced that all four West Coast Main Line tracks, and the adjacent London Overground Lioness Line, will be closed while a specialist heavy-lift crane removes the structure in one single operation. The closure will include Bushey station and will be in place from midnight on Saturday 19 September until 16:00 on Sunday 20 September 2026.
Work to remove ‘Bridge 56’ – which links Oxhey Grange and The Pathway/Anthony Close – began on 24 August. Residents were taken by surprise and subsequently launched a petition calling on Network Rail to guarantee that a replacement would be built.

The bridge is an important connection for our community, many of whom use it on a daily basis for both commuting, travelling to school, and for recreational purposes. A crossing has been in place since 1899 at the very least, but is likely to be almost as old as the West Coast Main Line itself.
OVEG has been liaising with Oxhey ward councillors and we spoke to the BBC to help draw attention. We also wrote to local MPs Matthew Turmaine and Gagan Mohindra, seeking their support, but haven’t received a response at the time of writing.
