Three weeks until Oxhey Lane public inquiry

There are three weeks left until the start of public inquiry which will decide the fate of fields on Oxhey Lane.

This is the final chance to prevent the proposed development of 256 dwellings on green belt to the read of the new Carpenders Park care home, as well as new traffic lights at the junction of Carpenders Avenue.

A campaign group – Save Our Green Belt – has been established to fight the proposals. The coalition say they have a strong case but urgently need to raise £100,000 to cover legal costs which include a specialist planning barrister and expert witnesses.

Almost £25,000 has been raised, but there is a long way to go with limited time left. The coalition says that if they lose the case, or are forced to pull out of the inquiry due to lack of funding, it is inevitable the green belt land will be built on.

The group has described the campaign as a ‘David and Goliath fight’ in which a group of local residents, who have raised funding through donations from friends and neighbours, are fighting a large developer with unlimited resources and a top legal team. They have also noted that the fields on Oxhey Lane have been there far longer than any of the people fighting for them.
