The Oxhey Village Jumble Trail was held on Saturday 29 July 2023. Stalls sold items including bric-a-brac, toys, cakes and vintage clothes. The event raised funds for Watford Food Bank.
Around 60 homes took part in the event, with residents turning their front doorsteps into bric-a-brac stores for the day.
Throughout the day, we provided almost 100 visitors with maps to explore the treasures on sale around the village. Almost every road in the village had a stall, including Wilcot Avenue, Field End Close, Capel Road, Haydon Road, Cedar Road, and many others.
We spotted an eclectic mix of items on sale, including 1950s newspapers, and a metal champagne holder.
On Upper Paddock Road, visitors had the chance to take their best shot on a homemade coconut shy. Whilst some disturbingly dark clouds were threatening to disrupt proceedings throughout the day, we got relatively lucky and managed to press on regardless.
The OVEG committee had a fabulous day of meeting residents old and new and signed up a host of new members, several of whom have moved to the village in recent months. It’s always wonderful to see the smiles on faces that are created by impromptu doorstep interactions.
Participants collectively raised almost £260 for Watford Food Bank; a fantastic charity that does amazing work for people in crisis. The food bank relies on the generosity of the community to ensure it can stop people going hungry. Your donations, via stall fees and the Jumble Trail map, will support local people in taking their first steps out of poverty.
Better still, we filled an entire crate of donations for Watford Food Bank including tins, sauces, cereals and pasta.
A special thank you went to OVEG member Chloe Hancock, who made the event possible by coordinating the stalls. We were also grateful to The Rifle Volunteer for allowing us to sell maps outside the pub.
