Coalition seeks funding for Oxhey Lane campaign

A new coalition of residents and local organisations is seeking funding to fight a planning application on Oxhey Lane.

The group is named Help Save Our Green Belt – SW Herts Coalition. It comprises Can’t Replace Green Space and Carpenders Park Residents Association.

It was formed in response to an application by Burlington Developments London. OVEG has been speaking to the group to find out how we can support their campaign and input the views of our members.

Burlington’s proposal focusses on land to the east of Oxhey Lane, in the Three Rivers catchment. It would see the construction of 256 houses and a home for looked-after children. The area is known to be popular for rambling, dog walkers and nature watchers.

The application was recently refused by the council’s planning committee on the basis that it was inappropriate development on green belt land. The Secretary of State has subsequently called-in the application for a public inquiry. The outcome could set a precedent for similar applications elsewhere.

Help Save Our Green Belt wants to apply, under ‘Rule 6’ of the planning regulations, to take a formal, active role in the public inquiry. They plan to contract an expert planning barrister and independent expert witnesses, and will need to fund marketing such as flyers. To support this, they have set a fundraising target of £75,000 and are asking residents to consider contributing.

If you would like to donate, you can do so through their GoFundMe page, or send money by bank transfer to the Carpenders Park Residents Association who are managing the funds.

Bank transfers should be sent to:
