We met on Sunday 9 November 2014, for the village’s Remembrance Day service and memorial walk.
The service was the first to take place at the new Oxhey Village War Memorial, which has been installed by OVEG and re-dedicated just a couple of months prior to Remembrance Day. It was also the first occasion that we completed the now-traditional memorial walk through Oxhey Village.
The community turned out in large numbers. A colourful brigade of Guides, Brownies, Scouts, Cubs and Beavers led the march, from Oxhey Village Green to Watford Heath. Local police officers paused the traffic along the route, through Lower Paddock Road and Villiers Road, for this particularly poignant service, which marked the World War One centenary year.
The service was led by Rev. John Lockley with readings by Sid Carpenter, and the laying of wreaths from various members of the community.
Afterwards, refreshments were kindly provided by The Royal Oak. We were grateful to Di Gnani for taking photos, and to Andrew Filer for his work in organising the event.
